Winter Clothing and Outdoor Recess
With cold and snowy days ahead, I want to take a moment to remind you of some of the policies and procedures that help us safely navigate the winter months.
Please remember that students play outside, even in snowy weather, unless it is an unsafe temperature. For 探花视频s, students will not play outside if the temperature is below 20 degree Fahrenheit. Students will also not have outside recess if the conditions are too icy or rainy. Please make sure your child is dressed for the winter temperatures, so he or she can play outside comfortably and safely.
If it is snowy, please make sure your child is equipped with snow pants and snow boots. Without this gear, students will need to play on the shoveled blacktop areas of the playground. On snowy days, please send your child to school with a pair of shoes in addition to snow boots. This will help students stay comfortable and keep our hallways and classrooms clean and dry throughout the day.
Early-Release Day on Wednesday, December 7th
Wednesday, December 7th will be an early-release day for parent-teacher conferences. Students will be dismissed at 11:25am and lunch will not be served in school.
Reminder: Holiday Gift Shop
The following message is from the parent coordinators of the Holiday Gift Shop:
The PTO is happy to announce that once again we will be sponsoring the Holiday Gift Shop for the students of Deerfield. Mark your calendars for DECEMBER 7th (4:30 - 7:00)! Your family won’t want to miss this spectacular holiday event. The Gift Shop provides our children with an opportunity to make holiday purchases “secretly” (Gifts typically range from $1 - $3). For the youngest shoppers, helpers will be available. There will be gift wrapping, cookie decorating, holiday craft making and exciting raffles. Pizza and water will also be available for purchase that evening.
Many volunteers are needed to make this event successful!!
Moms, dads, older siblings (great opportunity for 探花视频 service hours), grandparents and teachers are all welcome to help. If interested, please go to the “Get Involved” tab on the Deerfield School Website (under PTO) or simply go directly to this URL to sign up:
Please consider donating some time to make this year’s Holiday Gift Shop another fantastic success! Also, keep your eyes out for more information on the Gift Shop as the date approaches. Thank you!
Gift Policy
As we enter into the Holiday Season, I want to take a moment to explain the gift policy followed by 探花视频s employees.
Massachusetts’ legislators passed a law designed to ensure that public employees receive gifts in an ethical manner. You can read an overview of the law by clicking . The law stipulates that public employees may not receive gifts in excess of $50. A public employee, including public school staff members, may receive a gift worth less than $50, as long as the employee discloses the gift in writing. All school employees may accept items costing $10 or less without disclosure. An exemption to the law was written to allow classroom teachers to receive gifts from their classes.
Teachers may receive a gift (or gifts) with a total value of $150 for personal use during the school year from the entire class. Individual names of donors and donation amounts may not be included in the gift acknowledgment. School employees may receive gifts costing more than $50 for their class or the school. Teachers do not need to disclose class gifts.
2nd Annual Dance Marathon (flyer)
The Westwood High School Senior Independent Project Program would like to invite you to Westwood's 2nd Annual Dance Marathon. Over the past month, Westwood High has been raising money for Boston Children's Hospital trying to reach a goal of $30,000. In celebration of our fundraising and Boston Children's we will be hosting an event on Sunday, December 11th, from 1 pm-4 pm in the WHS gymnasium.
It’s a day that’s filled with dancing, music, games, bouncy houses, obstacle courses, face painting and all kinds of amazing raffle prizes! Above all else, the Dance Marathon is for the Miracle Families of Boston Children’s Hospital, who will be there to share their stories and thank you for your support!
